What is Serious Illness Cover?

Serious illness cover is similar to critical illness cover but rather than paying out when a condition becomes critical you can receive an earlier pay-out depending on how severe the illness has become.

How to get serious illness cover

PruProtect

Serious illness cover is only available with policies through PruProtect.

With critical illness cover, if you were diagnosed with cancer, it would have to be at stage 3 where the cancer has started to spread and is not just localised before the insurer will pay out.

How does it work?

With serious illness cover you would receive 25% of the amount insured if you had localised Cancer (Stage 1). If the cancer then spread and becomes classified as Stage III, then you will receive the rest of the money.

PruProtect offer two different levels of cover under their Serious Illness Policy; Primary and Comprehensive.

The Primary cover includes 100 Serious Illness conditions and pays out between 25% and 100% depending on the severity of the condition. The Comprehensive covers you for 161 conditions and will pay out between 10% and 100%.

Including children on serious illness cover

You can also cover your Children under Serious Illness up to £100,000, this is normally at an additional cost. For more information, please call one of our life insurance experts.

All of our policies do include Terminal Illness cover free of charge; this will cover you if you are given 12 months or less to live.
